Rideshare Coverage Explained by Driving Periods
To fully understand the value of this insurance, you need to know the four driving stages and how coverage applies in each:
Period 0 — Offline
You’re not using the rideshare app.
– Your personal auto insurance provides coverage.
Period 1 — App On, Waiting for a Ride
You’re available and waiting for a passenger request.
– Uber/Lyft provide minimal liability coverage to third parties only.
– No coverage for your injuries or your vehicle unless you have Rideshare Insurance.
Period 2 — Ride Accepted, Driving to Pick Up
You’ve accepted a request and are on your way to pick up the passenger.
