Our second value for a Quality Life is Communication . Communication is "the process of transmission and exchange of messages between a sender and a receiver." However, we are not going to explore communication as a "process", but as a tool that can help us create better relationships with our family, friends and / or your professional relationships. Our acronym CREA, gives us the points to take into account:

  • Communicate: When we communicate assertively, we have the opportunity to express more clearly what we think, feel or need. When we transmit a detailed message, we are making sure that it is understood correctly and there is less risk that what we want to say will be distorted or misinterpreted, avoiding misunderstandings or uncomfortable situations.
  • Respect: Respect in communication is important since it gives us the opportunity to give our point of view and listen to the point of view of the other, understanding that we all have a different way of seeing things based on each personal experience. Respect in communication does not mean that you have to agree at all times with what the other person says, but rather the opportunity that in a conversation you have the freedom to say "I do not agree", without offending or belittling the opinion of the other.
  • Listening: Listening is a key part for communication to be successful and we must practice it in two ways; listening carefully to the other person's message, without distractions or interruptions with your point of view, but to make sure that we understand what they want to say to us. In the same way, listening should also be practiced by saying in our own words what we are understanding. Thus, we make sure that our listening was correct and the result of the conversation will be more satisfactory.
  • Assume: When we assume something, we are taking it for granted or for granted without being certain. Not assuming gives us the opportunity to ask, inquire, and eliminate doubts and prevents us from developing our own conclusions without having all the details. Assuming or assuming only creates more uncertainty and confusion. When we don't assume, we get the message more effectively.

Good communication is a vital tool for a better quality of life, it opens the door to the world of the other person, strengthening our relationships and creating a more positive interaction. To practice it we must be responsible with the messages we hear and receive, and thus our bonds of love and harmony with those around us will grow.
